In conjunction with my career as a poet, I have earned a living in book publishing as an editor and writer since graduating from college. I’ve worked as an editorial assistant at Riverside Publishing, as the first paid employee at Alice James Books, and as an editor in Houghton Mifflin Company’s Secondary English Department.

A long-time freelance writer, I have worked for many major educational publishers and developers throughout the United States. I have written print and digital student books, teacher’s guides, ancillaries, and assessments for Kindergarten through Grade 12 students, primarily in reading, literature, spelling, grammar and composition, and social studies. The credited author of more than forty educational books, I have contributed to hundreds more. Truly, I love putting pedagogical principles into practice and meeting the challenge of creating engaging, instructive materials that help teach students of all ages.
